Coastal Operations Impacted by Los Angeles Wildfires

Los Angeles, California — Jan. 17, 2025 — As wildfires continue to endanger communities throughout Los Angeles County, their effects stretch far beyond the hills—reaching even the sandy coastline. The Department of Beaches and Harbors is implementing key safety measures to ensure beachgoers remain informed and protected during this challenging time. With maintenance disruptions, parking restrictions and air quality concerns, here’s what you need to know before heading to the coast.

Beach and Restroom Maintenance

With the loss of the maintenance yard at Will Rogers State Beach and the closure of Pacific Coast Highway, maintenance operations from Will Rogers through Zuma beaches have been heavily impacted. Some restrooms are closed or reserved for first responders.

Avoid Debris

Beachgoers are strongly advised to avoid all debris that washes onto the shore, as it may pose health and safety risks.

Parking Restrictions

The beach parking lots at Zuma, Point Dume, and Will Rogers beaches are currently reserved for first responders and remain closed to the public.

Dockweiler Fire Pits Removed

The fire pits have been temporarily removed from Dockweiler State Beach due to ongoing air quality issues. Remember, outside the designated fire pits at Dockweiler, bonfires, personal fire pits and grills are not allowed on any Los Angeles County beach or beach parking lot. Debris from illegal bonfires is harmful to marine life and other beachgoers.

These measures are critical to addressing the safety and environmental challenges caused by the recent wildfires. The Department of Beaches and Harbors appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain a safe, clean, and accessible coastline during this time. Together, we can help protect our beaches and support the recovery efforts across Los Angeles County.
