Update June 8, 2026:
Due to unexpected construction challenges, roadway repairs are taking longer than originally anticipated. Work is now expected to continue through June 12, 2026.
June 8 through June 12, 2026, between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, Point Dume Beach access on Westward Beach Road beyond the pay gate at Birdview Avenue will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic to allow roadway repairs to continue.
Los Angeles County Public Works is installing a new storm drain and repairing roadway damage to help maintain safe and reliable coastal access.
What to Expect
- No vehicle access beyond the swing gate off Birdview Avenue
- The beach parking lot will be closed during construction hours
- No pedestrian access through the roadway construction area
- Beach access may be available along the shoreline at low tide only

- Expect traffic delays along Westward Beach Road and nearby areas
- Allow extra travel time
- Consider visiting during non-closure hours

VISIT POINT DUME BEACH
Point Dume has over one mile of ocean frontage with 34 acres of sand. It is surrounded by headlands, cliffs, rocky coves, and vast beach access.
Amenities include restrooms, showers, restaurants, 373 parking spaces, and a hiking trail. Popular activities include swimming, diving, surfing, and scuba diving. The hiking trail leads to an ancient coastal bluff sand dune.
On a clear day, visitors can enjoy an incredible view encompassing the entire Santa Monica Bay and distant Catalina Island.
