SETS SAIL IN MARINA DEL REY
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2008
The 46th Annual Holiday Boat Parade will be held on Saturday, December
13, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
It is estimated that more than 70 beautifully lighted and decorated
boats will participate in the event
that is free to the public. The theme for the 2008 parade will be
"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town".
The parade leads off with a spectacular fireworks display at 5:55
p.m on Saturday evening.
Spectacular prize packages are available to category winners. The
"Best Overall" winner will receive two round-trip air
tickets to the 2009 Tokyo Bay Illuminated Boat Parade and Contest.
Parking is available at Los Angeles County public parking lots
throughout Marina del Rey.

FREE NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS 2008
Marina del Rey will usher in the New Year with a spectacular free
fireworks show off the Marina South Jetty on New Year’s Eve,
December 31. The fireworks will begin at the 30-second countdown
to midnight, and continue into the opening minutes of 2009.
The fireworks can be seen from almost anywhere in Marina del Rey,
but locals love the view from Burton Chace Park and Fisherman's
Village.

Lady Washington and Hawaiian
Chieftain
Young students will exchange books and pencils for heavy lines
and sea shanties when schools send their pupils to programs at the
tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. Both vessels
are scheduled to arrive in Marina del Rey in December 2008 for a

The ships will also welcome the general public at their berth in
Marina del Rey with on-board tours. A donation of $3 per person
is appreciated.
Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain are also taking reservations
for public sailings, including three-hour mock sea "battles" featuring
booming cannons between the two ships. Tickets for Battle Sails
are $60 for adults, $50 for seniors, students, and active military,
and $45 for children under 12.
The ships will be scheduled to take passengers on a three-hour Adventure
Sail, a family-oriented trip with demonstrations of tall ship handling
and lore. Passengers will hear rousing sea stories and learn hands-on
maritime history. Tickets for Adventure Sails are $55 for adults,
$45 for seniors, students, and active military, and $35 for children
under 12.
